چکیده

277 Lathyrus (Lathyrus sativus L.) is mostly grown on the residual soil moisture in rice-fallows as utera (relay) crop (Gupta and Bhowmick, 2005; Mondal and Ghosh, 2005). But low productivity especially under utera system is the major problem associated with this crop (Bhowmick et al., 2005). Even there is a limited scope for agronomic manipulation under rice-utera system although it has potential for increasing cropping intensity in considerable areas that remain idle after aman rice (Rautaray, 2008). Seed priming (pre-sowing seed soaking) is an important low cost technology to obtain better plant stand and higher crop yield. Pre-sowing soaking of seeds with KH PO , 2 4

Lathyrus cicera as quality feed for laying hens

Introduction Research at CLIMA has indicated that Lathyrus cicera and L. sativus (grasspea) have potential as grain legumes on 100 000 to 300 000 ha of neutral to alkaline soils in low-to-medium rainfall areas of southern Australia. They do not have serious disease problems and are envisaged as low maintenance/low cost crops for the purposes of green manure, managing herbicide resistant weeds, ...

The Phytoalexin Response o f Lathyrus sativus ( Grass Pea )

Leguminosae, Lathyrus sativus, Phytoalexin, 6a-Hydroxypterocarpan, Pisatin Lathyrus sativus was investigated for the nature of its phytoalexin response with the result that leaflets, im mature pods, and seeds were induced to produce 6a-hydroxy-3-methoxy-8,9-methylenedioxypterocarpan (pisatin). Evidence is presented for the metabolism of pisatin, by the wound pathogen Botrytis cinerea, to a phe...

Germination pattern of naturally grown Lathyrus and Vicia species to different methods and seedbeds

In many forage legumes, hard seed coat is the main problem impeding thegermination by preventing water and gases transport in seed. We evaluated theeffects of mechanical scarification, chilling, different seedbeds (peat and sand) andtheir combination on the germination ratio and time of 9 naturally grown legumespecies belonging Lathyrus and Vicia genus. Control seeds showed very lowgermination ...

PHOSPHATE FERTILIZATION CAN INCREASE YIELD OF PRODUCTIVE GRASS PEA (Lathyrus sativus L.) CROPS IN P-RETENTIVE SOILS

The effect of P fertilization on grass pea (Lathyrus sativus L.) yield and yield components was evaluated on soils with low P availability and high P retention capacity in small-scale farms of the Araucanía Region in southern Chile. Trials were conducted during 2000-2001, 2001-2002, and 2002-2003, in six sites; three sites in Lumaco and three in the Selva Oscura area. Six rates of P (0, 21.8, 4...

Comparative Effect of Ageing and Gamma Irradiation on the Somatic Cells of Lathyrus Sativus L

Gamma irradiation is one of the most important physical mutagen used for inducing beneficial as well as harmful cytogenetic effects in many crop plants. The cytogenetic changes occurring due to the storage of Lathyrus sativus L. seeds after gamma irradiation were examined during the present study. Mitotic index showed a dose dependant decrease while the dose and duration of treatments increased...
